Built almost 250 years ago (1765), Samuel and Elizabeth Powel’s House represented the center of elite social and political life during the birth of America. Powel House parties offered opportunities for revolutionary political and thought leaders – such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson - to gather and build relationships. At the same time, the Powel’s were respected as politically-neutral and socially elite by the British.
